My role is a little different from the rest of the council positions. As Panhellenic Delegate, I serve as an Ex-Officio council member, and my main job is to serve as the liaison between the Panhellenic community and Kappa Delta. I participate in biweekly Delegates Council meetings in which the Panhellenic officers present updates and important information that all the chapters should know. I then will usually send a summarized version of the most important points to Lindsay, our president, to make sure she is also aware of everything going on, and I email any other council members who might benefit from something I heard in my meeting. In our Kappa Delta chapter meetings, I present whatever the general chapter would want or need to hear about if it has not been explained already by another council member.
In previous years, the Panhellenic Delegate did not have any appointed officers under them. At the beginning of my term, the Recognitions Chair was moved under my oversight, which was very exciting because I love celebrating sisters’ achievements! I have enjoyed seeing this position grow as we created things like sister shoutouts and KD of the Week. In addition to the Recognitions Chair, I have had the honor of working with the Diversity & Inclusion Committee. This committee was created and placed under the direction of the Panhellenic Delegate last year, and it has seen tremendous growth throughout the course of its short existence. The purpose of the D&I Committee is to gather resources and outside information in order to help educate sisters on how to be more inclusive and aware. For example, we hosted the LGTBQ Center for a student panel towards the end of the semester to allow sisters to ask questions and learn in a safe environment.
I love being the Panhellenic Delegate because it allows me to hear about what’s going on across the entire Panhellenic community and report back to the chapter. I get to be super involved in Kappa Delta, but also in other matters. It’s a great balance that has really helped my professionalism and ability to make a difference in the chapter! My favorite thing about my time in this position was when I arranged a trivia night with a couple other Panhellenic chapters. It was such a fun experience that celebrated and encouraged inter-Panhel friendships, and everyone had a great time! My team lost by a landslide, but we had such a blast working together and I wouldn’t have had it any other way. I can’t wait for even more Panhellenic events next semester!
