As our chapter president, my role is to oversee our executive council, chapter wellbeing, and administrative relations (think nationals, Panhellenic, Purdue FSCL, SAO, etc.). It’s a whirlwind of a position — no two days are ever the same, which is part of why it’s so fun. This past semester, I was often on calls about COVID safety and updates for the FSCL community, but also attended roundtables for all Panhellenic Presidents, calls with other Kappa Delta Presidents, meetings about our new chapter house (coming soon!!), weekly council meetings, chapter meetings, etc. Our council is composed of 10 talented leaders, and a big part of what I love about this position is the ability to work directly with each council member on creating the best possible chapter experience for our sisters.
I ran for President because of the love I have for everything that this chapter has brought me. Through Kappa Delta I’ve met my best friends, the best support system, and people who have helped me grow into the confident woman I am today — I wanted to ensure that all of the women who come after me are able to find the same. I think this excerpt from the speech I gave when I ran sums it up well:
“As your President, I will be here to be your biggest cheerleader, supporter, helping hand, sister, and friend. I will strive to do everything in my power to make the best decisions for our chapter alongside our incoming capable and dedicated council. I’m passionate about leadership development, and want to help our incoming council feel confident in leading so they’re able to serve the chapter to the best of their ability.”
The developmental opportunities I’ve gained through my KD leadership have been invaluable — in my internship this summer, I’ve identified countless scenarios that I was prepared for because of the experiences I’ve gained through my leadership in this chapter. These skills are applicable no matter what industry you end up in, and I greatly appreciate having had the chance to explore my leadership capabilities before entering the professional setting. Kappa Delta council experience has prepared me for so much, and has also given me memories that will last a lifetime; I couldn’t be more thankful for all of the opportunities I’ve had and all of the incredible women I’ve been able to work with.
With all of that, the best part of serving as chapter President has been learning alongside my sisters. Leading your peers is not always easy, but my sisters have gracefully allowed me to make mistakes and learn from them throughout my three terms. I can confidently say that I would not be where I am today or who I am today without their love and support.
