Meet Our President!

Updated: May 27, 2020

Hello everyone!

My name is Sydney Klaveano and I am chapter president of the Theta Nu chapter of Kappa Delta. I am from Pullman, Washington – a West Coast transplant – and moving to the Midwest has been the biggest shock to my system. There aren’t coffee shops on every corner, no one drinks flavored Redbull, and the concept of mountains and oceans is pretty much a foreign concept. When I was younger, I planned to go to college in Seattle with half of my graduating class and only a few hours from home, and never dreamed I would move three time zones away to a school where I knew no one and no one knew me.

As great as it was to have a fresh start, moving so far away from everything and everyone I knew was harder than I ever imagined it would be. Watching my brother and family members grow up through social media, missing birthday dinners, and the number of miles makes me feel so withdrawn from everything and some days the distance is hard to manage. However, joining a sorority has been one of the best things I could have done. Where I was missing family, my new family filled that hole. I have sisters I can turn to with my troubles, and girls who understand how hard it is to be so far away from home. Even though I don’t get to see my family very often, I have found a new family that loves and supports me in ways I never could have imagined.
