With the holidays approaching, Theta Nu wanted to share some of our families’ holiday traditions and favorite things to do!
Our President Lindsay Drake shared her family tradition where “every year, my family makes my grandma’s recipe of peanut butter blossom cookies before Christmas. It’s a family favorite, and so much fun to be able to spend time with my siblings who I now don’t get to see very often!”
Lauren Lopez breaks out her creative side each year because “making gingerbread houses is one of my favorite holiday traditions! For as long as I can remember I would make them each year with my friends. This year my friend and I made gingerbread houses over facetime!”
Sister Beth Kupsis has special traditions that include everyone in her family! “Every year we light candles and say the names of family members who have passed away to remember them for the holidays. After that, we start to open presents, but my dad’s side of the family is Latvian, so you have to say a Latvian poem before opening your first gift! The little kids usually sing happy birthday in Latvian, the spouses who aren’t Latvian all say the same easy poem so we like to really critique their pronunciation, and my grandma finishes it off every year with a nice Latvian story and then translates it in English for us.” -Beth Kupsis
Olivia Shaul has a few favorite things this time of year! “The holiday tradition in my family is to make Christmas cookies and decorate gingerbread houses. We also always go see lights and go to Christmas at the zoo.”
Christmas cookies seem to be a favorite with us Kappa Deltas, and that includes our Panhellenic Delegate Lauren Wetterau who has the tradition “every year, my grandma and I make a bunch of different holiday treats to bring with us to our family’s annual Christmas party. Even though we can’t have the party this year because of covid, I will still bake some desserts to celebrate Christmas because the holidays wouldn’t be the same without it!”
We hope you enjoyed hearing about our favorite holiday traditions and wish you and your families a happy and healthy holiday season! AOT!
