Hi! My name is Maddie Knapp and thank you so much for visiting Kappa Delta’s blog! I am a freshman in the chapter studying Elementary Education and have loved getting to be involved throughout the course of the year. I remember “running home” on bid day and the rush of excitement that flowed through me as I was greeted by what felt like hundreds of eager girls. I am not going to lie, I was very nervous during my first week, and even first month as a Kappa Delta. It was hard to balance classes, the sorority and other leadership positions that I hold on Purdue’s campus. Honestly, it became pretty stressful. I have learned that juggling activities can be fun and a great way to be involved, but that it is also extremely important to give time to yourself and to take a step back.
Being a part of Kappa Delta and holding multiple appointed officer positions has provided me with a new understanding of what it means to be a leader, and to have much more confidence in myself. Although having confidence can mean jumping into any and all leadership positions you feel capable of holding, I have learned that it’s okay to not jump into every position. Pick what you feel most passionate about and give it your all. I am happy to say that I think I am the person I am today because of my amazing sisters in Kappa Delta. I know that the girls in the house are there for me, and I truly feel like I can be myself around them. I think it is incredible to be able to work alongside your friends too, especially when it comes to raising money for philanthropies. For example, we raised an incredible amount for our local philanthropy, Cary Home for Children. Knowing that you are changing lives is something that I do not take for granted and am excited to see what the chapter can accomplish in the future.
AOT!
